A former musician and songwriter, Mark worked for over 20 years as Jazz Editor for Chicago Magazine and has written over five hundred articles on jazz, broadcasting and African-American culture.
His articles have appeared in a variety of local and national publications, both in print and online, including the Chicago Sun-Times, DownBeat magazine, Jazziz, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Playboy, Ebony, JazzUSA and dozens of other publications.
He also spent years involved in television journalism, winning two Emmy Awards for his efforts in bringing stories about jazz to television on WTTW-TV/Chicago.
